A Very Cool School

A few days ago I was running a little early to pick up Kaine at School. What a blessing that turned out to be!

Kaine is such a good kid. He’s creative, ambitious, talented, smart, all that stuff. Just one thing, Kaine does not like school a whole lot. Sitting still is not Kaine’s forte and we learned that way back in first grade.

Through working with his school counselor, we decided to try an alternative school in our district that is more hands-on. The class incorporates projects into their cirriculum. That sounded like a good environment for Kaine so we have given it a try. Kaine says, “it’s still school” but his grades are improving and he likes it better. I like that the teacher to student ratio is 1:6! That is amazing.

Anyway, with about 15 minutes to kill before school dismissed I just sat in the burb listening to some tunes and admiring the vintage building that reminded me of my old school. As I sat there with just a few more minutes to go, I kept seeing young girls walking into a little facility with a playground behind the High School. Then the girls would come back out carrying their babies! As I sat there watching all these little girls leaving school and picking up their babies from the school’s own daycare center, I got a little emotional to be honest. I wanted to cry a little and then again I wanted to get out of the burb and cheer!

You know, we have all made irresponsible choices in life. We’ve all messed up. Heck, my mom messed up! Right there in my car I decided to pray. I thanked God for this school and for whomever pushed this through the system. What if this school were not here? How many young girls in high school can afford to pay day care so they can continue school? Typically, the girl would be forced to quit school and take care of the baby or get a job. Thanks to Buncombe East High School thse girls have been given a fighting chance of success and a normal life even though they have made a mistake.

I have heard that some officials in the county want to terminate the school. I am sure this facility is more expensive in some ways with what they offer but what are these students’ futures worth? Would you mind joining me in prayer for Buncombe East High School? Also pray that more of these schools would open in our region. I am convinced that this is a good thing. It only took 15 minutes of watching to see that.

Thank you very much. Blessings & Peace
